Bad Brooke

She was definitely here, there was a half empty glass of a vodka martini at the bar Brooke’s favorite, with cherry colored lipstick on the rim.

He needed to concentrate, his father had been hounding him all week about this party “Be on your top game Nathan!” he barked “Be there! Be sober! And don’t say anything stupid!”

He needed to be on his best game, but he needed to find Brooke. His basketball career was what he needed, to get where he wanted in life, to get into Duke. Brooke however, he wanted more than actually needed, but the want made it feel like need. And he needed to find Brooke before it was too late.

Nathan followed Brooke into the locker room, the game was over the Ravens had wiped the floor with Pickerington. He looked around to make sure they were alone.

“What the hell are you playing at?” Nathan questioned.

“What are you talking about?” Brooke smiled innocently, but it wasn’t one of those truly clueless, innocent smiles it was a devious I’m-fully-aware-of-what-you’re-talking-about-I-just want to hear-you-say-it.

“You know what I’m talking about Brooke.”

She shrugged her shoulders.

“You and Lucas.” He muttered. “So I’m gonna ask you again what are you playing at?”

“Me?” Brooke said angrily “Me?!” Her voice was getting louder she was obviously ready to let rip on him, thank goodness everyone had gone. “You promised you were gonna finish with Peyton, you don’t, then you start going after Tutorgirl, while playing Peyton and stringing me along. So, maybe I should be the one asking you that question!” Brooke yelled.

“I’m not into her.”

“Who?” Brooke scoffed “Peyton or Haley?”

“Neither!” Nathan said raising his voice, “God, I was only going after Haley to screw with Lucas, and Peyton, it’s never been there with me and her.”

“Yeah, that’s why it took months for you to end it, wait correction for her to end it with you!”

There was silence for a minute neither of them knew what to say, “I’m going to the Scouts Basketball Party.” Brooke announced.

“Good,” Nathan said. “We can talk then,” He said finally breathing a sigh of relief.

“I don’t think that will be possible, I’m going with Lucas.”

Dead silence. She knew how to wind him up.

“No, you’re not.” He said trying to sound calm, he wasn’t pulling it off very well.

“Don’t tell me what to do Nathan! I’ll wave if I see you. But I’ll probably too preoccupied.”

He could feel his chest tightening, he didn’t like it. Only Brooke could make him like that, only Brooke could make him jealous. He wasn’t a jealous guy yet somehow when it came to Brooke he was all sorts of things.

“I’ll tell you what,” She said seductively gliding towards him, her hair flowed from her shoulders, her lips were parted daring him to kiss her, tempting him, teasing him, as always.

“You find me before midnight and you’ll stop me doing something I might regret tomorrow morning.”

He swallowed hard.

“What do you mean?”

“I think you know what I mean Nathan. I know you’re not that great at Biology but do I have to spell it out for you?”

She tiptoed as she always did when she was about to kiss him but this time was different, she leaned in close pushing her chest against him, he did his best to hold back a groan, she pressed her lip against his ear.

“Me. Lucas. A bed. Preferably double.” He could feel her smile against his ear. “Unless you find me, it’s kind of like an Easter egg hunt. Think of me as the golden egg. Happy hunting Nathan!”

With that she picked up her duffel bag and blew out of locker room leaving him standing there.

Dead silence.

Nathan looked at his watch. It was 11:35pm.
